The aims of this work was to study the life stages of Chrysomya megacephala in a circular arena allowing the combined radial post-feeding dispersal from the center of the arena of C. albiceps and C. megacephala larvae. To determine the location of each pupa, the distance from the center, the depth and weight of each pupa formed were analyzed. For the larvae of C. albiceps, females released buried deeper than males, reaching an average depth of 10.74 cm and C. megacephala larvae presented greater average results than C. albiceps for all variables, particularly distance, which was 16.02 cm for this species and 12.30 cm for C. albiceps. The present study intended to analyze calliphorid attraction to traps painted in a variety of colors and the calliphorid constancy index in the Tingua Biological Reserve, Rio de Janeiro state, Brazil. The Diptera were collected monthly in the Reserve, between 2002 and 2005, totaling 24 samplings. ABSTRACT. Chrysomya albiceps (Wiedemann) and Hemilucilia segmentaria (Fabricius) (Diptera, Calliphoridae) used to estimate the postmortem interval in a forensic case in Minas Gerais, Brazil. The corpse of a man was found in a Brazilian highland savanna (cerrado) in the state of Minas Gerais. Fly larvae were collected at the crime scene and arrived at the laboratory three days afterwards. From the eight pre-pupae, seven adults of Chrysomya albiceps (Wiedemann, 1819) emerged and, from the two larvae, two adults of Hemilucilia segmentaria (Fabricius, 1805) were obtained. Comparative morphology of the spermathecae of some species of Chrysomya Robineau-Desvoidy and Cochliomyia Townsend (Diptera, Calliphoridae). Little is known about the morphology of the chitinized structures of the spermathecae of the Calliphoridae. In this work, the spermathecae of Chrysomya albiceps Wiedemann, 1819, C. megacephala Fabricius, 1794, Cochliomyia macellaria Fabricius, 1775 and C. hominivorax Coquerel, 1858 are described and illustrated. The occurrence in one species of four spermathecae, an atypical form for blow flies, was recorded for the first time. The analysis of these structures will allow a better understanding of this group as well as provide taxonomic characters for future phylogenetic studies.

Chrysomya megacephala (F.), a exemplo de muitas outras moscas-varejeiras, utiliza recursos discretos e efêmeros para alimentação e oviposição, tais como carcaças em decomposição. O contexto espacial em que ocorre competição por alimento em C. megacephala caracteriza-se por duas populações: indivíduos adultos dispersando-se e imaturos que são depositados nos substratos pelas fêmeas adultas. The aim of this study was to verify the duration of the development period, number of parasitoids produced per pupa, parasitism rate and sex ratio of Nasonia vitripennis (Hymenoptera, Pteromalidae), when they were exposed to a single host: Chrysomya megacephala (Diptera, Calliphoridae). One pupa was exposed in glass tubes to different numbers of female parasitoids (1, 3, 5, 7, 9 and 11) during 48 h. This paper is a study on the population dynamics of blowflies employing a density-dependent, non-linear mathematical model and a coupled population formalism. In this study, we investigated the coupled population dynamics applying fuzzy subsets to model the population trajectory, analyzing demographic parameters such as fecundity, survival, and migration. The main results suggest different possibilities in terms of dynamic behavior produced by migration in coupled populations between distinct environments and the rescue effect generated by the connection between populations. Larval predation on different instars in blowfly populations BABT

During its larval stage, Chrysomya albiceps (Diptera: Calliphoridae) is a facultative predator on other blowflies. In this study, we evaluated the predation by third instar larvae of C. albiceps on first, second and third instar larvae of Chrysomya megacephala and Cochliomyia macellaria in no-choice experiments in order to compare the vulnerability of larval instars to predation. With first and second instar prey the highest predation rate by C. albiceps was on C. megacephala. For third instar prey, the highest predation rate was on C. macellaria. With second instar prey, there was complete predation on C. megacephala within 90 min, whereas in C. macellaria only 55% of the larvae were eaten by 90 min. Necrophagous species of Diptera and Coleoptera in northeastern Brazil: state of the art and challenges for the Forensic Entomologist Rev. Bras. entomol.

Inventories on necrophagous insects carried out in Brazil encompass mostly species from the southeastern and central-western regions of the country. This review aims to produce the first checklist of necrophagous Diptera and Coleoptera species of forensic relevance in northeastern Brazil, an area that concentrates high rates of homicides. We performed a literature survey on scientific articles, theses and dissertations regarding necrophagous insect species in the region, and contacted scientists who develop research on forensic entomology. Observações preliminares sobre a atratividade por diferentes cores em Calliphoridae (Diptera), Niterói, RJ, Brasil Entomología

This research aimed to evaluate the influence of colours on the collecting of Calliphoridae flies. The methodology was based on colour traps (green, black, yellow, red, blue and white), baited with fish rotten (sardine). Green, black and red colours were the most attractive to the blowflies. It were collected 3549 flies, belonging to nine species. The most frequent were Chrysomya megacephala (Fabricius, 1794) (74,86%) and Lucilia eximia (Wiedemann, 1819) (14,06%).

The purpose of this work was to determine the diversity and population fluctuations of calliphorid flies in the Biological Reserve of Tinguá (ReBio-Tinguá), Nova Iguaçu, state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and to correlate their occurrence with the environmental variables of temperature, rainfall and relative air humidity. Specimens of Diptera were collected monthly between June 2002 and January 2005 using four traps placed at four points along a trail and exposed for 48 hours. Seasonal and spatial distributions in relation to reproduction of blowflies (Diptera, Calliphoridae) in Hokkaido, Japan OAK

Seasonal and spatial distributions of blowflies in relation to reproduction were investigated by baited traps in eight sites from lowland to high mountainous areas in Hokkaido, Japan. A total of 6,571 blowflies consisting of seven species in three genera was collected. The most predominant species was Calliphora vomitoria (Linnaeus) (5,946 flies, 90.5%), followed by C. nigribarbis Vollenhoven (537 flies, 8.2%).
